Why Do I Feel Uninspired?
You may be worried about unfulfilled desires. Stop overthinking and being hard on yourself! Just breathe, smile, and believe that everything will work out for the best.
Perhaps you need a break from your routine. Inspiration can be found everywhere: in nature, in your friends' life stories, in the tales of your grandparents, in the arts, in history and literature, in science, and in world politics. The solutions to the world's problems and the issues of the future will be discovered by you and the coming generations.
Could it be that you haven't been 'WOWED' recently? If you have been focused solely on grades, your brain may have had enough. The low attention span could be your brain's way of telling you it needs a break!
Shake things up! Do the opposite of what you've been doing. A trick that almost always cures boredom, burnout, or lost inspiration is to switch things up. If you've been inactive, get active. If you've been working or studying too much, play more or learn something new. If you haven't been around people, get around people.
A Trip That Reinspired Me
Whenever I feel uninspired, it's usually because I've been closing myself off and not doing things I'm passionate about. A trip to Utah and Arizona six years ago reminded me of this and got me inspired again. Each evening before visiting one of the 7–8 amazing national parks we visited, I would read about them to appreciate them more. Even now, visiting Santorini, I still recall this trip as one of the most amazing of my life. For the first time, I realized how incredible our national parks are and the beauty that was right here in America!
Seeing Bryce Canyon and learning that parts of it were once under water underlain by the fossils of dinosaurs was mind-blowing. Visiting a sacred part of Monument Valley with a Navajo guide, we heard stories about Westerns filmed there. I saw the Grand Canyon and learned it was 6 million years old!
Staying Inspired: Zion National Park was unforgettable because it is right inside the park! At dusk, I was still taking pictures, the park being closed to visitors.
Before going, I made sure to find the best time of day to visit Antelope Canyon to capture the perfect sunbeam. Near Arches National Park, we came across a rock with a dinosaur footprint. We had fun looking for it and climbing up these rocks.
30 minutes after this photo was taken, we were driving through Valley of the Gods, not sure if we would make it out before it flooded. Scarier still was the fact that we were the only two people there.
One of my distractions was trying to get a shot of all 3 of these cows looking in the same direction, but the little guy with his head down was having none of it! So rude!
Before the trip, I did something smart that I highly recommend if you're into photography. I got a new camera! Enjoying the new manual settings—newness disrupts boredom.
Shake things up: is one of the quickest ways to get inspired, and this trip reminded me of that. Another great way to inspire yourself is
Cultivate Creativity
No need for further explanation there. Get inspired by people you admire. I was never a fan of astrophysics until I heard this guy talk about it. To this day, I'm still mulling over this that he said:
"The universe is under no obligation to make sense to you."
That's because I'm a person who gets inspired by ideas like these. My point is, I don't know what inspires you or who it is, but find and plug into them. I can almost guarantee you'll get your mojo back.
Have fun exploring!
