The Influence of Rap and Other Music on Personal Growth and Creativity
I often hear people discussing their preferences between rap and other genres of music. Some find rap to be an irritant, while others thrive on its energy and depth. Personally, aside from causing me extreme headaches, rap has done absolutely nothing for me. But as a part-time rapper and singer, I have found that composing and performing rap music has significantly contributed to my personal growth and creativity.
My Journey as a Musician
I am a creative soul who has composed and published 12 original songs on my YouTube channel, titled “The Raja Singer.” Among these songs, approximately 5 qualify as rap compositions. My channel has gained a following, with around 1 lakh views on some of my hits. However, here, I will focus solely on my rap work.
Popular Rap Songs
Out of the 5 rap songs, at least 4 have garnered over 25,000 views in a matter of months. Three of these tracks have gained immense popularity among young audiences:
IAS Song by The Raja Singer: This song is particularly popular among IAS aspirants in New Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Kanpur, and Lucknow. I have received a lot of support from the audience. Haara Nahi Hun by The Raja Singer: This is my most recent release and it is rapidly gaining views and subscribers. People are being motivated by this song, which brings me great fulfillment. Srinagar Se UP by The Raja Singer: This song is a mix of a pop-based hook and rap verses. It has been well-received by rural and urban audiences alike. These rap songs have helped me establish myself as a successful singer and a lovable songwriter. They have also improved my creativity. I am grateful to all my subscribers, viewers, and even those few critics who have engaged with my channel.

Rap: A Primal and Powerful Experience
Rap music gets me in a primal state, filled with a lot of anger that badly needs to be released. On the other hand, music genres like country can get me very emotional and teary. I find that I cannot listen to country music without getting deeply involved with the emotions of the song, whether it resonates with my current feelings or even memories of past experiences.
Personal Growth Through Rap
The best kind of rap revives and deepens the tradition of oral storytelling. Artists like Kendrick Lamar and the Odd Future gang are pushing the boundaries with their lyrically complex and thought-provoking content. Other music, while great for singing along, tends to offer more straightforward and relatable lyrics.
Why Other Music Fails to Match Rap
What rap does for me that other music cannot is provide a sense of courage. Rap can make me believe I can jump off a cliff and walk away without a scratch. Other music, however, tells me to hold on when I fall and to keep going when I am down.
Ultimately, both rap and other music serve unique purposes. Rap stirs deep emotions and spurs personal growth, while other genres offer comfort and a sense of stability. The choice between them often depends on the individual's emotional state and the message they wish to convey.
