Why Choir is More Than Just Singing: My Favorite Parts
When people think of a choir, they often picture a group of individuals drawn together to perform beautiful music. However, for me, choir has become an extension of my family and has brought a level of joy and camaraderie that goes far beyond the music itself.
More Than Just Memes: The Inside Jokes that Bind
One of my favorite aspects of choir is the memes. Yes, the memes. It might sound a bit unconventional, but there is something endearing about the inside jokes that we share, which somehow just never seem to fade away. Each graduating class contributes to a long line of inside jokes and memes that become a part of our legacy. These shared moments of humor are what keep us bonded even after we’ve graduated and moved on with our lives. The memes are more than just visual jokes; they’re a testament to our ongoing camaraderie and a reminder of the good times we’ve had together.
Choir as a Family
Another significant aspect that sets choir apart for me is the feeling of being part of a community. Choir is not just about the music; it’s also about the friends and the family-like bonds that form within. Even after leaving the choir classroom, some friends stay, and new ones join. For me, the best part of choir is not just the music, but the friends I’ve made and the sense of family that comes with it. In fact, it is arguably the strongest connection I have ever made. I even met my best friend in choir. It’s not just about the music, but the emotional support and the friendship that choir brings to the table. The sense of belonging and the feeling of being part of something bigger than oneself are unparalleled in any other social grouping I’ve been a part of.
Rehearsals: The Heartbeat of Choir
While rehearsals might not be the first thing that comes to mind for those who see choir as purely a performative activity, for me, rehearsals hold a special place in my heart. I know this might sound a bit odd, but for me, the practice sessions are more exciting and engaging than the actual performances. There are a few reasons behind this:
Learning Something New: Rehearsals provide a dynamic learning experience. Every time we work on a new piece, I get the opportunity to learn and explore the nuances of the music. More Repetition: When we learn a piece in rehearsals, we get to sing it far more often than just the few times it might be performed. This repetition helps me get comfortable with the music and comes with a certain level of satisfaction. Lower Pressure: Rehearsals are less pressurized environments, which means that even if I make a mistake, it doesn’t matter as much. This relaxed environment allows me to enjoy the process of learning and growing musically.Beyond the immediate benefits, rehearsals also foster a sense of teamwork and collaboration. We all work together to achieve a common goal, making the experience more rewarding and fulfilling. The rehearsals are where the true magic happens and the pieces of music come to life. It’s during these sessions that I feel the profound connection to the music and to my teammates.
So, choir for me is more than just singing. It’s about the inside jokes, the strong bonds, and the valuable rehearsals that make the experience unforgettable. Whether it’s through the memes, the bonds of friendship, or the joy of learning and performing, choir has become an integral part of my life.
